Launched by Ecov in September 2020, the Covoit’ici Plaine de l’Ain network provides a genuine alternative to driving alone while significantly improving access to the Plaine de l’Ain Industrial Park and the EDF Bugey Nuclear Power Plant. The network includes four carpool lines:
High-frequency carpool lines
The Covoit’ici Plaine de l’Ain network allows people to carpool as easily as taking the bus, thanks to connected roadside stops equipped with dynamic information signs displaying passengers’ requested destinations.
Passengers can submit their trip request via the mobile app, text, or telephone assistance. As soon as the request is made, the passenger’s destination is displayed on the roadside sign, making it visible to approaching drivers. Registered drivers also receive a notification through the mobile app informing them that a passenger is waiting nearby.
The service’s flexibility, driver incentives, the Departure and Return Guarantee, and continuous support from the local carpooling community—through the app, telephone assistance and on-the-ground outreach—all contribute to the steady growth in ridership.
Seamless multimodal mobility
The carpool lines complement the existing mobility offer across the territory, including car sharing, organised hitchhiking, public transport and cycling. Several Covoit’ici stops are integrated into mobility hubs developed by PIM Mobility, allowing users to continue their journey using self-service bicycles.
