The Municipality of Courchevel selected Ecov to deploy and operate a network of instant carpool lines across its territory.
The objective? To provide residents, seasonal workers and visitors with an accessible mobility solution connecting the village, its hamlets and the ski resort.
The Municipality of Courchevel wanted to provide an alternative to solo driving that complements the existing public transport network, enabling people to travel easily across the municipality and access local services year-round.
Three key challenges reinforced the need for an alternative mobility solution:
Since 3 December 2022, two pilot carpool stops have been in operation:
Le Grand Carrey, at the entrance to the municipality; Courchevel 1850, at the foot of the ski resort.
The service is free, reservation-free and easy to use. Each stop is equipped with a dynamic roadside sign and a simple push-button terminal. When passengers wish to travel, they simply select their destination using the terminal. Their destination is then displayed on the roadside sign, making it visible to approaching drivers.
More than 1,700 trips were completed during the service’s first year of operation on this single corridor within Courchevel.
For comparison, carpooling on this one corridor represents more than half of all recorded carpool trips across the entire Tarentaise–Vanoise area, which includes five intermunicipal authorities (Source: RPC).
Following the success of the pilot, the Municipality of Courchevel and neighbouring public authorities are exploring the deployment of additional stops to expand the network and significantly increase carpooling across the territory.
Covoit’Go is particularly well suited to rural and mountain territories, where the population—and therefore mobility demand—can increase dramatically during the tourist season.
